How to Introduce Yourself in a Video Interview

Today, most of the companies are switching over to video interviews as they are more time and cost-efficient. In video interviews, either a live session is conducted between the interviewer and the interviewee or a one-way interview is conducted. Introduction of a candidate plays a crucial role in his/her selection for a job. So, a candidate must follow these tips to excel in a video interview:-

Begin With Greetings

If you are appearing for a video interview, always try to join the meeting 5-10 minutes earlier than the given time to check the technical functioning of your device. Start by greeting the interviewer with a simple sentence like:

“Hi I’m Daniel Miller. Nice meeting you sir/mam”.

Tell Your Basic Details

How to begin introducing oneself in a video interview is not as difficult as it appears. Always start with a brief personal introduction, stating your name, age, location, family background and a little about your hobbies or interests. Try to give only the important and relevant information according to the job. Do not make it so long that even the interviewer has to interrupt you in-between and tell you to move onto some other thing.

Qualifications, an Important Aspect

After your brief intro, next comes your educational background or qualifications. Always start with your current or recent qualification and then move downwards. For example,

“I’m a recent graduate of XYZ University’s graphic designing program. I’ve done my schooling in Chandigarh. I’ve been very passionate about designing and animation since my childhood. That’s why I opted for it as my career.”

Your Professional Experience Matters Alot

Here comes the most important part of your interview in which the interviewer is most interested. In this part also, give a brief overview of the work that you had done and the positions of responsibility that you held in various companies.

If you are a fresher you can tell about the internships or courses that you’d done along with your academics. But remember, don’t go into so much detail. If the interviewer would like to know any aspect of you in detail he will let you know and only then you should go in-depth.

Winding Up Graciously

Close your interview with nice words. Ask the interviewer for any questions or queries or any other information he wants to ask. Show them that you value their time and have keen interest in working with the company. For example, you can say:

“Thanks for having me sir/mam. And also for giving me this opportunity. Looking forward to hearing from you. Have a nice day sir/mam.”
